Reuse & Recycle Holiday Decor

Holidays are a fabulous, FUN time of the year! All the excitement and cheer of the season helps make it the most wonderful time of the year! As you prepare for this holiday season remember that being eco friendly is possible. We know many households that reuse holiday decorations from year to year. It is always fun to add something new to the décor but what is old usually brings with it memories and nostalgia of holidays past.

We recommend if you are going to reuse holiday string lights to make sure to check the safety of them before you put them up. It is always recommended to make sure all bulbs are working and in the proper place and that no wires are exposed. Ensuring that the bulbs do not touch anything is always critical as well. In addition to reusing lights, putting holiday decorations up is always fun. Decorations can often be used from year to year. Not only does this save you money but it also cuts down on waste that potentially ends up in the landfills.

In addition to reusing décor it is also possible to reuse bows, ribbon and holiday bags. You can save these from year to year and get multiple years of use from them. At the end of our family holiday evenings we divide up the gift bags and all take a stack to be able to use next year. This saves money and time in replacing them each year.

If you have decorations that no longer work in your residence, we always recommend trying to recycle them if appropriate or donating them so that another family might find a use for them. Giving to others and seeing their joy is one of the most rewarding parts of the holiday season for our family.
